Ref: PROPOSAL FOR 2ND RUNWAY AT STANSTED AIRPORT
Please
find
enclosed a collection of 20 signed petitions from the Local History
Recorders
of Uttlesford relating to the planning application by BAA to develop a
second
runway at Stansted
Airport.
The Recorders of
Uttlesford History are an established federation of historians and
local
history societies which covers the Uttlesford district. As the petition
states,
we believe that the proposal to build a second runway would mean the
destruction and urbanisation of everything we hold most precious about
this
district, and which we as local historians try to conserve. It is
signed by the
petitioners as listed
below and we would ask that you submit it with the objections to this
plan. You
should also note that a number of other Recorders, whose parishes are
deeply
threatened by airport expansion, also support these views but are
already
committed to local protest.

The
Recorders of Uttlesford History,
being closely linked with the heritage and environment of north west
Essex,
wish to object in the strongest possible terms to the proposal to build
a
second runway to expand Stansted Airport.
We feel that
this would destroy a beautiful area, including many listed buildings
and
ancient woodlands, and completely alter the character of the
countryside and
villages of this district which we as Recorders help to conserve and
care for.
