The Village of Elsenham is particularly lucky in having a complete set of Parish Council Minutes. These begin with their Inaugural Meeting on 4 December 1894 when Sir Walter Gilbey was elected as Chairman. From the first hand-written single page accounts, we move to multi-paged typed accounts of Village Life, every month until we come up to date. The decision was taken by the Parish Council to approach The Essex Record Office and seek their advice and ask them if they would be willing to take these into storage.
It is intended to locate all but the most recent records at the Records Office. A filing cabinet will continue to house the photographic history of Elsenham. In addition another CD Rom SlideShow has been produced. In all approximately 400 photos now span the two SlideShows.
The History of Elsenham Book, which was produced to coincide with the Millennium, is now out of print. The book is, however, available on CD Rom. Copies of all CDs will be placed with other photos in the Parish Council Filing Cabinet. Information on access to these available from Elsenham’s History and the Clerk to Elsenham Parish Council. The collection of photos continues to grow. It is hoped to place some of these on the RUH Website in due course.
The biggest change within the Village has been the launch of the Parish Council’s own Web Site. The Village still has its own Web Site which carries all information on the numerous clubs and local activities. www.elsenhamvillage.co.uk . From within that site you can navigate to the Parish Council Web Site.
The Eco Town debacle is still unresolved. There has been no further progress of note re Stansted Airport Expansion.
