The Saffron Walden Branch of the Essex Society for Family History carry out a great deal of very useful transcribing work for family historians and are now generously making their work FREELY available online via the RUH website. This will be a long-term project due to the large number of entries, running into many thousands. The transcripts will be put online gradually, starting with the Baptism Registers from the earlier dates. All those with ancestors from Saffron Walden will find the information invaluable, and the Recorders of Uttlesford History acknowledges with gratitude the sterling work of the Saffron Walden Branch of the ESFH and particularly thanks Stan Sutherland for making the data available at no cost. However, neither RUH nor ESFH are able to deal with queries related to this transcript. Those requiring copies of the original registers need to use the SEAX online catalogue to order their requirements from the Essex Record Office which is gradually scanning the registers and making them available through the Essex Ancestors project. Alternatively, researchers can visit the ERO Archive Access office in Saffron Walden Library and run off their own copies of the microfilmed registers that are kept there (currently 30p per A4 page).

For enquiries please contact: ero.saffronwalden@essex.gov.uk or ring 01799 523178.The office is manned on Tuesdays and Fridays 9-1 and 2-5 and on Saturdays 9-1.
